I picked up the Purlicue Old Skools last year, but otherwise haven’t gotten anything from Vans until this article! These Vans Old Skool 36 DX are part of the Anaheim Factory series.
The Anaheim Factory collection throws back to the pairs made in the original Anaheim, CA Vans factory. The 36 refers to the original style number for the Old Skool. This version of the Old Skool includes a glossier midsole and higher “foxing tape” compared to a typical release.
The shoes come in what appears to be a standard Vans box. However the lid is cut diagonally (looking at the box from the end), providing a more sturdy box. The shoes come with the white laces and the standard Vans Off The Wall tag. They also include a tag with a brief explanation of the Anaheim Factory collection.
How Are The Materials?
The suede and canvas materials are surprisingly good! The shoes boast 10 oz canvas on the upper. Normally general release Old Skools use a more rough and rugged suede. The suedes used on these are slightly nicer. Fairly soft for a shoe at this price point! I’m pleasantly surprised at the material quality and craftsmanship on these. That is despite not being what I would call “materials” type shoes to begin with.
How Do They Fit?
The Vans Old Skool 36 DX Anaheim Factory fit true to my Vans size of a 10. I wear the same size on Air Jordan 1s and many Air Maxes, but wear a 9.5 in other brands like Adidas or Saucony. I find these to have a very comfortable feel thanks to the upgraded Ultracush insoles. That part is the one thing on these that isn’t a throwback!
Someone described these to me as “Vans Vault that you can get at the mall”. I’m glad I finally decided to give them a try. I’m really feeling these! Right now these are my token pair, although I might eventually try out some of the other Anaheim Factory releases.
