The last pair of SB’s I picked up were the Shadow J-Packs. While those are general releases, these Nike SB Dunk Low Travis Scott Cactus Jack are a quickstrike.
These shoes are another in a long line of collaborations between Nike and Houston musician Travis Scott.
While there does exist a special box for a friends and family edition of the shoe, my pair came in the somewhat new rainbow-colored Nike SB Quickstrike box.
The inside and outside swoosh on each shoe are different; pink on the inside and black on the outside. The tongue tag and insole features Travis Scott’s Cactus Jack lettering with the insole and box paper featuring paisley pattern graphics.
Speaking of these graphics, the canvas Paisley pattern on the upper wears away to reveal a tree camo print (that many are mistaking as elephant print) beneath as well as two buttons near the top eyelet flaps on the right shoe. These also feature a plaid pattern on the side panels. The different patterns used around the shoe are apparently shoutouts to Houston and can be seen on his other Nike collaborations and album artwork. At the top of shoe near the ankle is some embossed lettering. The shoes come with yarn-like rope laces as well as pink and black SB lace options.
How Are The Materials?
The upper is primarily made up of a buttery suede/nubuck type material and a tear-away canvas. The plaid/tartan parts are some other kind of soft textile. The quality on this pair definitely seems higher than many SB’s we’ve gotten recently. If you’re a fan of smooth suede, you will definitely like the texture on these kicks. I haven’t cut away the canvas on my pair but I suspect that removing it will not only reveal the tree/elephant pattern but should also either be leather or the same soft nubuck/suede material.
How Do They Fit?
The Nike SB Dunk Low Travis Scott Cactus Jack fit true to size, although I prefer a half size up for additional comfort and room, and to minimize pinky toe rub. This is typically how I do all current Nike SB Dunk lows, so whereas I’d wear a size 9.5 in Vans and most Nikes including Air Jordan 1s, I opt for a 10 for shoes like this.
That said, these are built closer to a classic SB, right down to the bottom two eyelets coming over the toebox wrap instead of under, so your true size can work as well. If you can get the sizing right, these are very comfortable.
This release was ridiculous. Friends of mine that work at skateshops have told me some horror stories of Travis Scott and Nike SB fans being excessively agressive and at times downright crazy over these sneakers. I will leave it to you to decide if these are worth the hype! I am very happy to add these high quality quickstrikes to my SB dunk collection. If you can safely and affordably get a pair, I can easily recommend these.
