The Travis Scott SBs were tough to get for most, and the same might be true for these Nike SB Dunk Low Safari.
The shoes are based off the well-known 2002 Air Max 1 colorway. Supposedly these are an Orange Label release, however they came in a regular Teal Box and some even appeared in Purple Boxes. The shoes include black and brownish-orange SB laces.
Many nods to the AM1 homage include a stitched in swoosh on the rear panel where NIKE would normally be stitched, a stitched in swoosh on the side of the toebox and of course the safari print around the upper.
Maybe these aren’t has hyped as the Travis Scott. For me though, they are another can’t-miss pair. That’s especially true since getting an 18-year old pair of AM1s isn’t exactly practical these days.
How Are The Materials?
There are a number of materials executed on these for as much of a 1:1 with the sneaker they are based off. On the toebox we get a canvas-like mesh, which kind of reminds me of the Kermit dunks a bit. The safari print is comprised of a stiff and rough nubuck/suede type material. The suede on the side panel is also a bit rough although not as much as the print area. The suede on the swoosh and backtab is actually very soft and a highlight! Overall a good job was done matching these to the homaged pair. Some of the materials are actually quite good!
How Do They Fit?
The Nike SB Dunk Low Safari fit snug to me. So, I went a half size up for additional comfort and room. This is typically how I do all current Nike SB Dunk lows. And I’m glad I do! The stiff materials around the toebox needs a lot of break in. As it stands, they are very comfortable at a half size up for me.
