Nike SB Dunk Low City of Cinema Review

By Anthony Levine, longtime sneaker collector.

The Nike SB Dunk Low City of Cinema is a premium release from 2024 with some interesting quirks. Lately, I’ve been really into these underrated SB Dunk releases.

This pair gets its inspiration from Parisian cinema. The upper’s texture is meant to represent old theater exteriors. The felt areas pay tribute to the velvet ropes and seating and the insole artwork features a stage with the “laugh now, cry later” theater masks at the bottom. Even the lettering on the tongue tag and backtab looks more “cinema”-like.

At first, I wasn’t sold on these. The early sample photos online didn’t impress me—especially the paintstroke-like details on the midsole and the shade of yellow, which felt off. But after seeing them worn on social media, my opinion started to change. Eventually, I found a pair at Black Sheep skate shop for under retail, and at that price, I couldn’t pass them up!

This pair comes from the Purple Box series and includes a set of reddish SB laces to match the red on the tongue, as well as a yellow pair to match the rest of the shoe. Both lace options have yellow aglets.

Materials

The felt portions of the shoe are nice and soft, as expected. Meanwhile, the rest of the uppers are leather. It’s a roughly textured leather, which mimics the cracked walls it’s supposed to homage. The swoosh is some kind of nylon-like textile which adds another element of depth to the shoe. The quality seems overall up to par with current SB quality and easily beats out general release non-SB dunks.

Fit & Comfort

Like many SB Dunks, this pair runs slightly snug at true to size. The materials have some give, but I usually go up half a size for a more comfortable fit.

The Zoom Air cushioning isn’t the most noticeable for casual wear, but it offers decent support for walking and standing. While not the plushest underfoot, these hold up well and make a solid choice for wearing for a few hours at a time.

If these are sold out in skate shops or online, you can try looking for them on eBay.
