When it comes to odd looking kicks, I’m no slouch! Thus, even with some misgivings, I picked up these Nike React Element 87 Desert Sand!
These get their name from the colorway and feature Nike’s React cushioning system.
The brown and volt on these really are surprisingly versatile. I find kicks like these go better with joggers and track pants than jeans. This is due to them being a casual shoe that leans heavily towards a tech running shoe look. That said, some grey joggers and a hoodie work great with these. I could see navy or black factoring into an outfit as well. You can wear a monotone sock for a more plain look, or spice it up with a brighter sock with some volt in it for extra pop.
Overall this is an interesting shoe with a lot of comfort and a very cool colorway. It remains to be seen how well that clear upper will stay looking crisp, but fresh out of the box these are very dope. The shoe is definitely in line with the wave of “deconstructed” looking kicks out today.
How Are The Materials?
The materials tough to judge here. The issue I have with shoes like this is the clear part of the upper generally suffers on materials. This seems to be the case here as well, with the clear part being a plasticky mesh. I could see it creasing a lot after a few wears. There is some suede and leather around the eyelets which is ok quality. Overall, I wouldn’t get these based on materials but rather on aesthetic and comfort.
How Do They Fit?
The Nike React Element 87 Desert Sand fit true to size. I would avoid sizing up as the clear shoe is going to reveal that these are too big! The react cushioning is extremely comfortable, almost as comfortable as boost but with a different feel to it. I can definitely feel the energy return as I step. The shoe is also very lightweight.
