The Nike Dunk Low Pro Viotech dropped in 2002 (and retro’d in 2013 & 2019) and gets their nickname from the official colorway of the shoe.
Celebrities such as Wale and Robin Williams have been famously spotted sporting Viotechs! Some people view these as a pair of Pro-B’s (the precursor to SB’s), however the box on my pair only indicates that they are a dunk pro. Nike was fairly inconsistent on pro vs pro b back in the day, even labeling boxes differently from pair to pair.
These multicolor kicks are hard to form into an outfit! Honestly with these I just wing it. In this case, I just kept pulling tops and jeans out of the closet until I found a match that seemed to work. The top is a dark blue and red striped shirt. This particular shirt has such fine striping that it appears to be an interesting off-blue color. I paired that up with some medium-light wash denim.
Although the sneaker world seems about all things tonal these days, there was a time when brightly colored kicks were the hottest colorways out! These old dunks are a testament to those times and a great way to stand out.
How Are The Materials?
The uppers are simple soft suede and mesh. The quality is of course excellent, although all that light colored mesh will look dingy over time. The shoe typically requires some brushing when I pull it out of the box using a suede brush. That said, the suede is great on this particular release. I’m not sure how good the suede is on the newer retros of the shoe.
How Do They Fit?
The Nike Dunk Low Pro Viotech is very comfortable. I bet you could go down a half size and be ok in these thanks to the suede and mesh construction, but in my case I wound up going a half size up due to price and availability at the time. I kind of have to choke the laces as they fit quite big at a half size up. Still, these are one of the more comfy dunks I own.
