One of the most well-known sneaker colorways is the Nike SB Dunk Low Freddy Krueger. While this pair isn’t touching that pair as far as value, importance to sneaker collecting or colorway, it is an affordable way to get some of those colors on feet.
We don’t get the full Freddy experience here like we do with the SB’s, as far as the sneaker details actually tying into the movie. We do however get a colorway similar to the same colors that are on the sweater the character wears!
This sneaker reads “BTTYS” on the box label, which usually indicates that the colorway relates to a college sports team. In this case, I can’t think of a well-known team’s uniform that has these specific shades of green and red. Maybe I’m just not familiar enough with college sports. In any case, for me these evoke the Freddy sweater more than college sports.
Outside of the colorway, there’s nothing that particularly stands out about these. They are an extremely basic release, except for the red lace tips on the included green laces. This is similar to the Polar Blue Dunks, which also include laces with contrasting aglets. Other than that, no extras are included, we just get a plain orange Nike box and the shoes.
Materials
Like many other Nike Dunks I’ve reviewed, these are constructed of a thin, cheap-feeling shiny smooth leather. If you want high-quality suedes and leathers, basic-level Nike kicks like these are not the move. In my opinion, a shoe like this is great for the colorway and look, and I expect the materials to be basic at this price point. Usually, premium pairs will hit for a few more bucks at retail.
Fit & Comfort
These have a fairly roomy fit. The slightly stiff materials don’t provide the best step-in comfort, but should break in fairly quickly. I go with true to size on sneakers like these. If you generally have issues with Nikes being too narrow, you might want to go up a half size. The fit is your standard Dunk fit so if you are familiar with these types of Dunks, you already know how these are going to feel on feet.
Underfoot you have a basic insole, midsole and outsole. There’s no special tech on a shoe like this, not even Nike Air. So the comfort underfoot is tolerable for a few hours. If you get used to wearing modern running and walking sneakers, a retro casual model like this will not impress on comfort. But they look great on feet and are not uncomfortable to rock for casual use.
