Nike Dunk Low Dusty Olive Review

By Anthony Levine, longtime sneaker collector.

The Nike Dunk Low Dusty Olive are I believe part of the Ugly Duckling pack. The original pack from the early 2000s contained 3 colorways, and they all saw a retro in 2020. This pair is a new addition to the pack from 2021 that has the same type of materials and color usage as the other pairs. I lucked out on a random restock on the SNKRS app and finally managed to grab a pair.

Like many Dunks, these get their nickname from the colorway, but remember they also are attached to the Ugly Duckling pack. The shoe features a nice mix of brown and green with some yellow hits that help the shoe’s otherwise muted palette pop.

At the time of writing this article, rumor has it other Ugly Duckling re-releases might see restocks. If that’s the case, I’ll be looking to finally re-add Veneers to my collection. This is helpful since selling my OG pair of that colorway is one of the more regrettable moments as far as my sneaker collection goes. Then, I would once again have the full set, now that I have these.

These come in the regular Nike Sportswear box laced up in with the yellow laces. Otherwise, no extras here.

The $120 price point at retail indicates these are a bit nicer than your typical Dunk Low materials on a GR level (General Releases generally come in around $115).

Materials

One of the things about the Ugly Duckling pack, whether its the older or the newer releases, is the suede. Nice and buttery, it does not disappoint here. Your extra $5 retail goes a long way on a sneaker like this, and the entirely suede upper guarantees I’ll be high stepping, trying not to get these dirty or scuffed. Rock with pride, but handle with care.

Fit & Comfort

These have a roomy fit and the soft suede uppers require little to no break in time. I think the less stiff uppers adds more step-in comfort to these.

I opt for true to size with Dunk releases like these. There’s no tech or cushioning system in a shoe like this, so you get a somewhat stiff ride underfoot. Still, I don’t find regular Dunk Lows uncomfortable. Basic and simplistic as far as feel, but good to go for a few hours at a time thanks to the roomy fit. A retro model that doesn’t try to do too much can stay relatively comfy, although nothing amazing compared to Boost, React, etc

If these are sold out in stores, you can try looking for them on eBay.
