I first started sneaker collecting with SB’s, and this in turn started my love for older dunks. The Nike Dunk Low Cave is one of my all-time favorite colorways and I can’t imagine my sneaker collection without them!
The shoes get their name from the colorway and released in 2003 around the same time as the Ugly Duckling pack of dunks. These are often mistaken as being part of that pack, but they are actually a Europe-exclusive colorway.
These are part of an era where crazy-colored dunks rule! Keeping the rest of my outfit plain yet playful helps the kicks to stand out without looking clownish. For this I’m opting for a Bape tee and some dark blue jeans from H&M. I also threw on a Polo beanie to complete the look.
How Are The Materials?
These have a full suede upper with a mesh tongue. The suede on these is super lush and of excellent quality. Old dunks like these really set a high quality standard that makes new dunks seem cheap by comparison. The buttery suede and simple construction are likely why people lump these in with Viotechs, Plums and other dunks from around that time.
How Do They Fit?
The Nike Dunk Low Cave fit at true size and are extremely comfortable. They are so soft and flexible that you may even be able to go down half a size – and they’d still feel great! The materials on these exemplify stretchy comfort, unlike stiff dunks of today.
These dunks are slimmer than an SB and way more comfortable than a pair of IW’s. The better shape and comfort make these more inline with today’s aesthetic, while the colorway helps the wearer stand out from the crowd. That makes these perfect to me!
