I’m a big fan of Orange Box era SB dunks. Probably the most famous high from that time are these Nike Dunk High SB Wheat.
Actually, I could be wrong but I think the only other orange box high top are the Paul Browns. Both dunks stand out for their use of the padded tongue, not typical for dunk highs. These get their name from the colorway.
These are actually pretty easy to rock. Simply get any color (light, medium or dark wash) denim and pair it with a grey or white top. You could even rock a navy or red top depending on what pants you decide to go with. This shoe is surprisingly versatile!
Nostalgia and hype aside, I think these are one of the best sneakers ever made and totally worth the investment if you can find a clean pair. I’m not sure I’ve encountered a better example of what an SB dunk should be. If you’re a fan of SB dunks, especially older dunks from the orange box days, you probably want these in your collection.
How Are The Materials?
What can I say, the materials are insane! That’s nothing new for fans of this era of dunks. Buttery suede/nubuck covers the uppers and although it is a short grain, it’s the butteriest I think I’ve ever felt! Any apprehension I had about shelling out for these immediately dissipated the first time I held these in my hand and witnessed the greatness.
How Do They Fit?
Like many SB’s that came out around this time, the materials are very comfortable. So much so that I’m able to go down a half size on the Nike Dunk High SB Wheat, even though they seem stiff in hand. They still probably fit very well at true size. Although the outside holds it’s shape very well (and a great shape at that), the inside is plush and cushy, exactly the perfect combination for a shoe like this.
