This isn’t the first drink-based SB I’ve reviewed, but the Nike Dunk High SB Big Gulp is definitely one of the more slept on SB’s out there!
The shoe colorway is based off of the 7-11 logo color scheme along with the famously large drink cups found at said establishment. The shoe’s ankle liner is even brown to represent the soda!
It can be tempting to go with a mostly red outfit but I suggest going one of two ways instead. You might keep it simple with a white tee and some light colored jeans for a summer-type look. In this case, I’m rocking a green and black PRL hoodie and some black jeans. The shoe has just a little bit of green which is enough to play off with a green top, and the dark jeans allow the kicks to pop.
How Are The Materials?
The materials are nice on these by today’s standards. Obviously, these beat out subsequent releases. At the time these released they were considered subpar. Black and gold box dunks are the beginning of the shift to wider releases for dunks and issues with construction on the shoes. This shift is fully manifested in the blue box series and all that come after that. In retrospect though, these are sweet! Suede and leather uppers and simplistic material blocking keep these fresh. The perforations on the side were a turnoff when these dropped, but now are in style.
How Do They Fit?
The Nike Dunk High SB Big Gulp fit a little big and are very comfortable at true to size. Gold box dunks are at least still very comfortable if not the best quality compared to the dunks that came before. They definitely are not stiff like current releases and should require no break in time.
