Nike has released many pairs of kicks under the “essential” line, and these Nike Air Max 1 Essential Sail & Black are one more for the books! Essentials are basically GRs in typically (but not always) basic combinations of colors and materials.
This particular pair at first seems about as plain as they come, but these are actually really dope and I’m glad I was able to get a pair when prices were rock bottom for these. I owe that in some part to the fact that sneakerheads in general sleep on GR releases. The gumsole really helps complete the look on these and in my opinion makes them look extra clean!
These are comprised of suede, mesh and leather. Like many in the essentials line, the material quality is decent; it’s not premium but its not rock-bottom terrible either. The suede is not lush, but it’s not exactly the sandpaper suede found on many Nike GRs. These use smooth leather which is also a step above the worst kind of plasticky leather found on other pairs. Overall I’d say the quality on the shoes is passable.
The Air Max 1 Essential fit true to size and are a tad stiff but definitely very comfortable. The toebox shape is fairly boxy thanks to the mesh/leather combination, but if you can get past the shape, these look great on foot!
