The Air Icarus originally came out in 1991, and the Nike Air Icarus Volt Fuchsia is part of a 25th anniversary rerelease.
One of the cool things about the Icarus was it came with anatomical arch support inserts. You still get those with these retros, which really is dope for collectors out there that want things as close to the original as possible..
The bright colorways on this particular pair is definitely reminiscent of something we would have seen in the 90s. That said, a downtempo fit is what will help these shine. You can go with dark or light denim, and a grey, white or black top, but whatever you do, keep it muted. You really want the volt and purple to pop. If you have a track suit, this definitely would be the time to break it out!
Although the toebox could use some reshaping, these otherwise exude the obscure retro runner look. Overall the only type of people interested in these are probably going to be collectors, which is a shame because they’re a really dope shoe for everyday wear!
How Are The Materials?
The materials are average Nike fare, or maybe slightly better. You have the felt-like suede, mesh and nylon with a leather swoosh. While the materials don’t scream top notch, the construction is solid and the looks of the shoe in this case win out over the tactile feel of the low grade suede used.
How Do They Fit?
The Nike Air Icarus Volt Fuchsia are really comfortable and fit true to size. No fancy boost or lunar in these, just a regular midsole – but it doesn’t stop them from being comfy! There’s something a bit refreshing in the simplicity of a shoe like this. If you need arch support, you can place the included insert under the insole. I haven’t tried them with the supports, so I can’t really comment on what they bring in terms of comfort.
