Similar to the 574S, this was a relatively new model from New Balance at the time. It also drew inspiration from heritage models. I went with the New Balance X-90 Cyclone/Marblehead as they reminded me of a classic New Balance colorway.
The model even has the toebox overlays similar to the 990v4!
I like light or khaki colored denim with this colorway. I would match that up with a grey or white top. This is an interesting shoe because it’s kind of a fall colorway but it can go with non-fall clothes if you desire.
This shoe was definitely one of my favorite new New Balance pickups. That said, I’m not sure how many of these I need in the collection. I wound up selling off my pair when space for the collection became an issue, however I do kind of wish I still had a pair.
How Are The Materials?
The upper quality is definitely nice for a lower cost New Balance. The suede seems nice and soft. I am seeing a bit of QC issues around the shoe with regards to stitching and glue around the midsole, so VS a pair of Made In USA New Balance, you get what you pay for. All that said, these don’t feel cheaply made at all. Overall I would say these materials are decent.
How Do They Fit?
These New Balance X-90 Cyclone/Marblehead fit true to size and are very comfy! The shoe has kind of a bulky midsole on purpose to match the vintage look of the model, but given that, these actually are fairly lightweight. They are definitely more modern of a fit and feel for a shoe that takes its cues from older models.
