I haven’t bought some Air Jordan 5s in a while, but that changes now! After selling off all my old pairs, I’ve taken the plunge and picked up these Air Jordan 5 Laney JSP.
Michael Jordan played for Laney high, so many Laney themed colorways exist in the Jordan Brand catalog. The shoes feature a special insole graphic with a 23 and some arrows in a pattern.
These are a bit tricky to pull off with the mostly blue upper. I’d stick to black, grey or light washed denim with these and avoid clashy darker blue denim washes. If the sneakers didn’t have yellow, khaki could have worked well with these, but as they are, it’s best to avoid khaki colored pants. I’d pair up black or grey denim with a white or grey top depending on the overall look for a quick fit with these.
Just like the Air Jordan 7, I had suddenly found myself without a pair of 5s. While not my favorite Jordan model of all time, I still like them enough to start collecting them again, and so this is the first in my reintroduction into the sneaker.
How Are The Materials?
People might hate on these, but I actually like the materials. The upper is a very short haired suede, and while it doesn’t color change with a stroke that well, it is very soft and smooth. I also found no QC issues on my pair. Thus, I think for what is basically a general release Jordan retro, these have surprisingly good quality. The tongue features a chanille Jumpman which is a nice touch.
How Do They Fit?
These Air Jordan 5 Laney JSP fit comfortably at true to size. I’ve fit a half size down on AJ 5s before, but I wouldn’t risk it on these newer releases. Overall the shoe is decently cushioned for a retro and should be good to wear for a few hours at a time. At least these have some pliability, unlike the stiff Laney 5s from a few years back.
