I’ve reviewed one other pair of these. I even used to have a previous retro of these Air Jordan 1 KO Sail & Varsity Red, which I always regretted selling.
That particular retro has some of Nike’s “pre-vintage” yellowing applied which kind of makes them look dingy. Yet, once they were gone from the collection, I felt like they were missing from my life! As soon as these came out, I was determined get the colorway again, and I knew that if I was patient, I’d be able to cop under retail.
The AJKO is technically part of the Air Jordan 1 line. The shoe released just after the AJ1 but before the AJ2. The primary differences from a standard pair of 1s are the shape, materials and “AJKO” instead of “Air Jordan” on the wings logo. The original KO’s had a different sole than a regular pair of Air Jordan 1s, although the pre-vintaged retro of this colorway that I mentioned earlier had a standard Jordan 1 sole on them.
How Are The Materials?
The quality on these is great. Air Jordan 1 KO’s typically have a canvas upper and it is thick and sturdy, yet pliable enough to wear. The smooth synthetic leather on the swoosh and around the ankle seems to also be of a decent quality. I sometimes think that canvas is by default easier to have in a good quality vs leather and suede which has a lot of variance between premium and standard.
How Do They Fit?
The Air Jordan 1 KO Sail & Varsity Red fit true to size and are very comfortable. They seem stiff at first, but break in fairly quickly. I do find the shape on these to be a bit more boot-like on foot thanks to the materials and how the seams are a bit more thick and obvious. In any case, true fans of the Air Jordan 1 will find little to hate about this colorway of the AJKO.
