I’ve rocked some fancy Stans before, but in this case I wanted something closer to the classics. These Adidas Stan Smith Vintage definitely fit the bill!
We’ve all seen that white colorway with green accents, and this “Vintage” pair kicks it up a notch. The two most obvious differences on these vs a regular pair of Stans are the gold lettering on the side and the pre-yellowed midsole. A more subtle difference would be the materials (more on that below).
Stan Smiths are a classic Adidas model. They are nearly in the same class with Shelltoes / Superstars in terms of sneakers that have been around and popular for a long time.
What To Sport These With?
As I mentioned in an earlier post, I’m not a huge fan of matching up green shoes. In this case, I added a Bape 1st camo longsleeve button up Shark Hoodie to a Supreme white tee and some light blue jeans to create a basic outfit. Sure, the camo is green, but it’s a different shade and is more about the camo print than a color match.
How Are The Materials?
The materials are where these really shine! Or rather, don’t shine, as Stan Smiths tend to have that smooth shiny leather. In this case we get more grain to the leather with the “vintage” look. Overall, the leather is more buttery and of a higher quality than that found on the slightly less expensive standard Stan Smith model. To me, this alone is worth the upgrade!
How Do They Fit?
Adidas Stan Smith Vintage fit true to size and are decently comfortable. These are less stiff right off the bat thanks to the vintaged leather. I find these a bit narrow which is why I go true to size; there would be room in the toebox to go down a half size if the shoe wasn’t so long and skinny. In any case, at true size you won’t have anything to worry about with respect to comfort. I highly recommend a pair of classic Stan Smiths for your collection, and in my opinion the vintage pairs are worth the extra $20 or so for the better materials and added details.
