These totally remind me of the Air Icarus. The Nike Air Skylon II Solar Red is a shoe from 1992 that is finally seeing a retro.
These came out in a pack with one other colorway featuring a more blue gradient. Speaking of gradients, the main feature on this shoe is obviously the faded and speckled coloring on the side panel. The shoes also feature some cool “Air Skylon II” lettering towards the rear of the shoe.
These 90s type colorways featuring a lot of pink and purple on a white base tend to look good with either very light outfits or very stark black outfits. In the summer these go good with some light wash denim and a white top. In the colder months these look crisp with some black pants and a grey or black top. If you can find a vintage track jacket, you can totally pull a certain type of look off with these.
As soon as I saw these were coming back out, I put them on my list to cop. When a shoe finally gets retro’d after over 25 years, it behooves me to pay attention. In this case I’m glad to add this piece of Nike history to the collection!
How Are The Materials?
The materials are basic Nike Sportswear quality. We have the felt suede and mesh all around the upper. The gradient area seems to be a plasticky mesh – it’s fairly stiff. Let’s face it, this shoe is all about that gradient and the overall aesthetic, and not the materials.
How Do They Fit?
These Nike Air Skylon II Solar Red fit true to size. The shoes are as comfortable as any basic Nike Sportswear retro. The OGs weren’t daggers by any means, but I did give these a slight reshape to get the aesthetic closer to something I would wear today.
