After getting the Snow Beach AM1, it was high time to do an a colorway with some meaning behind it; the Nike Air Max 1 Aqua Anniversary.
This pair originally released in 1988 as a women’s colorway and has now finally retro’d in men’s sizes. The shoes come in a special Anniversary box with reflective striping and include spare white laces and a Nike hangtag in the packaging.
It took Nike 30 years to retro this pair, so don’t sleep if you want to own a piece of AM1 history!
Some dark clothes could work with these, as is the case with most Aqua/Grape type colorways, but in this case I would go with some light wash denim and a white top. The light blue is a shade that won’t clash with most blue jean colors that are out. I found this shoe tends to pop no matter how you match it up.
How Are The Materials?
The material quality on the Air Max 1 Anniversary Aqua is basic, not bad, but not premium either.
Instead of the hairier suede found on newer GRs like the Desert Sands, we have a more traditional felt-like suede around the shoe. The entire shoe is suede and mesh. The included laces have a vintage look to them while the spare laces are plain, white and regular. Overall the suede seems soft if not cheap, so while I can’t say the materials are terrible, they’re not really the selling point of the shoe.
How Do The AM1 Aqua Fit?
These Nike Air Max 1 Anniversary fit true to size comfortably.
While true size is the safe bet as usual for an Air Max 1, wide footers might need to go up a half size. Pairs that are constructed like these have a lot of give and a quick break-in period.
