One of my fondest memories is when my wife and I went to London. These Ubiq x New Balance 1600 English Crown definitely help trigger those thanks to the inspiration of the crown jewels, which I happened to see in the Tower of London during our trip.
Ubiq was based in Philadelphia PA, and Pennsylvania was founded by William Penn, who got the land from the king of England. Thus, the English Crown 1600s tie it all together, and include Ubiq branding and a special graphic on the insole, a dustbag and a hangtag.
For a burgundy shoe, I found these very versatile. These are easily rockable with light wash or dark wash blue denim and a black, grey or white top. The white and gold bits break up the shoe just enough to have it be rockable all year round!
Talk about slept on collabs! I was looking for a nice pair of 1600s and glad I settled on these. Overall the quality is very good and the comfort is there. The added personal nostalgia takes these up a further notch for me and I highly recommend this shoe (and the Tower of London tour if you’ve never been).
How Are The Materials?
The materials are very good on these! Like many New Balance collabs, Ubiq did not slouch on the pigskin suede or aged leather on the uppers. The gold areas have a nice print to them that really helps them pop and the translucent outsole is in burgundy, not a typical color on an icey sole. Overall, materials fanatics will find little wrong with these shoes!
How Do They Fit?
These Ubiq x New Balance 1600 English Crown snug yet comfortable at a true to size. The shape on these is a little bulky but not as much as say, a pair of 999s. These still slope to a fairly decent pointy toe which takes a bit better shape once on foot.
