I’ve been seeing everyone wearing Air Max 1s on IG a lot lately, and I haven’t really been on the trend. Upon digging through the box stacks, I stumbled on these Nike Air Max 1 Essential Midnight Navy & University Blue.
Apparently, I bought these around 2014. After some toebox reshaping, these are good to go!
I’m thinking light and/or bright to go with this spring/summer looking shoe. These have some nice reds and blues that you can accent with some light or medium wash denim and either a grey, red or light blue top. Or some combination therein.
It’s always fun to find a pair of kicks you barely remember owning and/or buying. The colorway on these is superb so I want to send a thank you to me from 4 years ago for finding these. Air Max 1s are a classic shoe, so as long as you have a decent colorway in hand, you have something valuable in your collection.
How Are The Materials?
The materials on these are not bad! The midnight navy suede is actually a little plush. I’m not going to say the shoes are buttery at all but these definitely stand a little above other GR Nike Sportswear releases from back in the day. Perhaps they just aged well, but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality (as in, not completely turned off).
How Do They Fit?
These Nike Air Max 1 Essential Midnight Navy & University Blue definitely fit true to size. The suede and mesh toebox area does give these some give, so if I wanted to risk going down half a size, these could probably work after some break in. It’s the combination of narrow and stiff that makes many Nikes tough to wear, but these actually have a bit of play around the toebox. Overall I would say these provide a standard level of Air Max 1 comfort and support. Definitely good for wearing around all day!
