Nike Dunk High Wu-Tang Review

By Anthony Levine, longtime sneaker collector.

The Nike Dunk High Wu-Tang re-release similar to the Currys, but on a much larger scale. As far as I am aware, the original Wu-Tang Dunks came out in 1999 and were extremely limited. This newer release is much wider, giving us the opportunity to get our hands on a previously very hard to obtain pair.

I’ve heard multiple rumors about the original Wu-Tang Dunk Highs. Some say there are just 36 pairs in existence for Wu-Tang friends and family, others claim closer to 100 pairs. Some say these are just ’99 Goldenrod Dunks with a Wu-Tang logo on them, others say they are a completely special production.

Having seen the newer Goldenrod Dunk release, I can say these are definitely different. The yellow is slightly darker on this newer release (closer to the Wu-Tang yellow), and the leather has a bit more grain to it as opposed to plain smooth leather.

The biggest difference from Goldenrods though are the Wu-Tang logos stitched towards the rear of the sneaker and on the tongue tag. I’ve been a huge fan of the Wu-Tang Clan since 1993, so to finally have a version of their Nike Dunk collab is like a dream come true!

These come in a black pull-out drawer style box and are laced with yellow laces. The shoes are priced at $150 retail.

Materials

We get some leather with a bit of grain covering the upper. Similar to other basic all-leather Dunk Highs, there’s not a lot going on here, but at least these don’t suffer from the over-tumble that Nike likes to use sometimes. The quality here does seem bumped up from a typical pair of Dunks.

Fit & Comfort

These have a slightly roomier fit, similar to other non-SB Dunks. I went with my usual true-to-size, and it worked well.

As expected with a retro Dunk model, there’s no high-tech cushioning here. Instead, they offer solid, straightforward support that’s common in casual retro sneakers. They’re comfortable enough for daily wear, with a fit and feel that aligns with other Dunks at this price point.

If these are sold out in stores, you can try looking for them on eBay.
