The creation of the recrafted Air Max 3 renewed my interest in the Air unit-based running shoes of the 90s. These Nike Air Structure are another model to be brought back by Nike. The model originated back in 1991 and features a wider and flatter outsole which provides increased comfort.
This shoe has previously retro’d under the name “Air Structure Triax 91”. To date I’ve picked up the OG “Infrared” colorway (AKA Neo Teal) as well as the newer Navy/Dark Citron and Grey Fog colorways.
I have been buying up colorways of this sneaker including new colorways and OGs and will update this article as I pick up more pairs. Overall these remind me of the Air Span 2: a classic model with great comfort that unfortunately many will sleep on. I advise against this: who knows when the model will come back again after 2021?
These ship with white flat laces and an orange Nike sportswear box. Otherwise these don’t have any standout features or extras.
How Are The Materials?
This shoe has a range of materials used depending on the colorway. The Midnight Navy / Dark Citron and Grey Fog colorways for example have a mesh, leather and “suede” (microfiber) upper. Meanwhile the “OG” Neo Teal “Infrared” colorway pretty much uses the felt suede and mesh for the upper. Most of the materials used here are not premium, but trend toward the basic side. Overall this shoe isn’t about a premium build, but instead about the retro throwback aspect of the model. Those that mostly buy sneakers based on material quality will probably not be impressed, while those shopping for a comfy retro runner might be able to look past the basic level quality a bi.
How Do They Fit?
I advise true to size for the Nike Air Structure. I get a 10 in most Nikes and that’s what I get for these if I can. That said, the wider build also allows one to go half size down if that is all that is available. These are very comfortable, especially for longer walks and live up to the extra comfort promised by the wider outsole and reenforced air unit.
