I’ve bought a lot of pair of New Balance 992s but surprisingly zero 993s. Until now!
The 993 first released in 2008 and supposedly combines the best elements of the 991 and 992 while improving the cushioning in the midsole.
These ship in a basic grey New Balance Made In USA box. They include a paper Made in USA tag and flat laces. These laces are a bit fatter than I’ve seen for the 991 or 992. Otherwise nothing else is included with the sneaker.
These feature some slightly different branding from their predecessors, most notably the USA flag design on the patches on the rear and tongue of the shoe.
I felt like I needed a token pair of 993 after grabbing so many 991s and 992s. While I am not disappointed in these by any means, they’re not terribly exciting as a sneaker or colorway. They are by design very similar to the 992, only NB has been making the 992s in way more interesting colorways lately. While the navy upper is a classic NB look, I’m not blown away overall by the sneaker although I am glad to add it to the collection.
How Are The Materials?
The Made in USA level of materials is in effect. I find the suede and mesh similar enough to the 992, and the 3M is nice and bright. The microfiber overlays are ok as well. Overall I think these hit the mark for this price point for a New Balance Made in USA sneaker. Maybe not quite as amazing as a pair of 998, but great nonetheless.
How Do New Balance 993 Fit?
These New Balance 993 are comfortable at true to size. They return a generous, wide-foot friendly fit at that size.
I go with a 9.5 in pretty much every New Balance. I find them to look slightly more aerodynamic on foot than the 992 but to otherwise feel pretty much the same. If you like the comfort on the 992 then you will like these as well.
