You might have thought I was done picking up Air Jordan 1s, but dope pairs keep dropping. Enter these Air Jordan 1 High Phantom.
The shoe gets its name from the colorway. The lace choices included are white, black and red. The shoe features some quirky design choices such as the zig zag stitching around the tongue, red contrast stitching and metal eyelets.
These are basically a red and white shoe which means they are going too look good with pretty much anything you wear. Dark blue, black, light wash, grey or khaki denim should look super clean with these. Toss on a grey, white or black top and you’re good to go. If you’re going to add red to your outfit, make it a small logo or accessory so as not to overdo it. Especially if you have the red laces in like I do!
A lot of people seem to have slept on this release, however, I like how these look a lot! An overall clean shoe with detailing that reminds me of those sneakers that are customized to look like a cartoon (I’m sure you’ve seen pics online like this). I think if you want a white-based AJ1 but with more flair and details, this is your pair right here!
How Are The Materials?
The material quality is ok on these. The “phantom” parts of the shoe (the almost-grey areas on the swoosh, eyelets and around the toebox) are a smooth leather with just an inconsistent bit of tumble to them in parts. These areas are fairly soft and somewhat plush. Meanwhile the sail portions of the shoe utilize that crinkled paper texturing found on other shoes like the Turbo Green Air Jordan 1s. These sport a nylon tongue as well. The outline on the “double swoosh” is not 3M, but does reflect light; I can’t tell if it’s plastic or just has a shiny finish. Overall I’d rate the materials as “interesting”. It’s nice to see the different types of texturing and paneling used on the sneaker, even though none of the textures are particularly premium.
How Do They Fit?
As is typical of Air Jordan 1s, these are a tad narrow and long, so I tend to stick with my regular Nike size of a 10 on these. For reference, I’ll wear a 9.5 in most other brands and runners, but a 10 in many Jordans to give my pinky toes a break. Overall I’d say these are no more or less comfy than any of the other Jordan 1s I’ve reviewed, and not bad at all to wear for short periods of time.
