I’ve gotten turned around on this shoe. I used to not be a fan of the toebox shape, but these New Balance 990v4 Jupiter / Orange have really grown on me! These get their name from the colorway.
This is a rusty orange shoe in hand, so it should go well with grey or light blue pants and blue, grey or army green top. Don’t be afraid to match up other fall colors with these as long as you avoid directly matching the orange. If you must add in some orange, make it subtle accents rather than something like an orange t-shirt.
Overall I’m a fan of these. The 990 has recently grown in popularity as it has traditionally been viewed as somewhat of a dad shoe. I’m glad there are now plenty of colorway choices available and I recommend adding at least one pair to your collection!
How Are The Materials?
These are Made in the USA New Balance. The upper is mostly suede and 3M (other pairs have mesh, but these have perforated suede instead). The suede quality isn’t quite up to other USA-made pairs, but it’s still smooth and somewhat buttery. The level of quality on these is definitely acceptable and materials fiends will definitely like these overall.
How Do They Fit?
The New Balance 990v4 Jupiter / Orange fit slightly big, but fit great at a half size down. True size should also work great. These do have kind of a snub toe but reshaping them doesn’t seem like a good idea thanks to the 3M strip right on the edge of the toebox. I’m not sure what an iron would do to that.
