1999 was definitely a great year for dunks! The Nike Dunk Low Reverse Ultraman is a great example of the shape and iconic colorways that came out during that time.
These are actually a co.jp release meaning that they did not come out in the US. Obviously, pairs made it over though. The shoe gets its nickname from the Ultraman TV character.
The simplicity of this shoe and the classic dunk shape (which would later be butchered by Nike) are what really make these classics! As you can see, I stuffed the tongue on my pair (which I kind of regret). Whether you modify the tongue or not, these shoes exemplify the look and quality of kicks from Nike in the late 90s.
Materials
Just like other ’99 dunks, the shoe consists of a leather upper and a nylon tongue. The quality of the materials is great. The leather is smooth and soft and the nylon is of course comfortable. My one gripe is with the paint. The paint Nike used to use on these dunks has a tendency to peel over time, and many of my old pairs are suffering from odd paint defects. On this pair, a scuff on the swoosh has transformed the surrounding area into a peeled scar.
How Do They Fit?
The Nike Dunk Low Reverse Ultraman fit true to size, like many older dunks from that time. I would describe the fit as very comfortable and no-frills. This is a basic shoe with no air or zoom technology in it.
