10 Dope Blue Nike Dunks

By Anthony Levine, longtime sneaker collector.

Blue kicks are dope and blue Nike Dunks are extra dope! I have compiled a list of blue Dunks I’ve owned that include some of my favorites as well as some recent pickups below. List is mostly SB Dunks but has some classic regular Dunks as well.

1. Nike SB Dunk Low Blue Golf

When I first started collecting sneakers, my first love was the SB Dunk. I was starting in the early Gold Box era, so of course I reached back to the Black box times to start getting some older heat. I managed to get both the blue and brown Golfs as some of my first grails.

Both colorways come with a little golf flap thingy that goes over the laces and feature some extra designs around the panel stitching. What’s really cool to me about these blue Nike Dunks is how that lime green lace option pops off that blue. It’s rare to see basically a volt green and Carolina blue combo. In fact, I’m struggling to think of something like that on another shoe. To me the lace swap brings out the blues even more on these classics!

2. Nike SB Dunk Low Blue Lobster

The Lobster pack is a certified SB banger! Concepts can’t go wrong and continues to go back and grab new color schemes to fit the lobster theme.

To be honest, while the Red Lobsters are a cool sneaker, this second release in the series is top tier! I think it’s my favorite of any Lobster colorway that has released. If you are into blue Nike Dunks, there’s easily 3-4 different shades of the color on this sneaker! Personally, I like how the dark blues all hit against each other with the light blue hits on the outsole and tongue tag for contrast. I still wish I had these joints!

3. Nike SB Dunk Low Mulder

One of the first SB Dunks ever created! I guess this is more of a “white” colorway than a blue one, but the blue is really what makes these Dunks.

I like a clean white shoe as much as the next collector, but in this case it’s the blue swoosh and detailing on the tongue tag and backtab that bring the shoe to life. The simplicity of earlier color schemes like these really help to show off the early Nike SB Dunk silhouette. To this day, selling off my pair of Mulders is one of my biggest collector regrets. I think the blue used is actually “Orion Blue” and I haven’t seen it on a Dunk since!

4. Nike SB Dunk High Blue Supreme

This is my favorite out of the 3 pack of Supreme Dunk Highs that released during the silver box era. These possess a fat tongue, rare on a Dunk High, even for an SB.

One thing I’m loving about how the blue is done on these Nike Dunks is the croc print texturing that’s added to the leather. Supreme collabs often play with different details on kicks. While the stars, fat tongue and extra laces all draw attention, the croc material adds that extra layer of detail that puts these over the top. Carolina or UNC blue is among my favorite shades on Dunks, and on sneakers, period!

5. Nike Dunk Low Autumn Gentleman

As far as newer releases go, I’m currently really feeling these Autumn Gentleman Dunks. One of the main things I like about the sneaker is the blue used on underlays. The corduroy and deep navy color really pop against the rest of the sneaker.

Sure, denim and tweed are nice on the sneaker and many might focus on the overlay materials. This is understandable, and we can tell a lot of thought went into materials and colors on this pair. However, for me, what ultimately stands out is that blue on the toebox and side panel. I think without the blue on these Nike Dunks, this sneaker would not have nearly as much appeal or specialness to it.

6. Nike Dunk Low White/Hyper Royal

Speaking of new releases, here’s a pair of blue and white Nike Dunks that give me a Mulder type of vibe (see #3 above). While the blue is a lot darker here than in that pair, it really stands out against the white.

We still get that “simple” blocking and I like how we get blue on the outsole here too. It looks better here in the darker blue than the orion blue would have looked on the Mulders in my opinion. In any case, this is one of my more recent pickups, and while the clean white uppers do look crispy on these, it’s that blue popping off the Nike Dunk silhouette that really sells these for me. The white backdrop draws a lot of attention to the main accent color here.

7. Nike SB Dunk Low Tiffany

Back to the classics, we have perhaps my favorite Dunk of all time, the Diamond Supply Co collab on the Tiffany colorway. This pink box era pair pretty much defined SB Dunk collabs for me moving forward. Any shop or brand collab I see released now is immediately compared to this shoe in my head.

While some might argue the blue here is a bit more of a teal or bluish-green, for me, it’s Tiffany blue. That classic color from the famous Jewelry store chain’s gift bags and boxes makes a stunning and unforgettable appearance on this shoe. The black and silver accents play off the blue perfectly here and you will be hard pressed to convince me that a better color scheme exists for this particular shade of blue.

8. Nike Dunk Low Clear Jade

For many, “jade” means green. But these to me are way more of a blue than a green. I think the reason I’m drawn to this pair is the “clear jade” actually reminds me of a cross between UNC blue and Tiffany blue, both of which have made this list already.

Nothing special going on with these Dunks except that crispy blue color scheme. I like a simple Dunk when executed right, and a great, unique shade of blue against crispy white underlays can really do the trick. Here, the light blue color looks extra vivid against the white and makes me appreciate the simple things when it comes to kicks. Sharp contrast in a simple pattern on a classic silhouette.

9. Nike Dunk High Kentucky

While the pair I have is old (1999), this colorway has been replicated across several retros over the years, both high and low cut. It gets it’s name from the college basketball team. The Dunk was designed to represent simple colors for these teams and it does it’s job here. The colorway’s appeared on the SB and the non-SB Dunk alike. These are basically the quintessential blue Nike Dunks, no matter which release you have!

These really show how great blue can look on the Dunk silhouette. Similar to the clear jade colorway above, these show off that blue color by placing it against crisp white underlays. Whether you are rocking the SB BTTYS pack, or the more recent lowtop release of this colorway, the whole point is that blue tone. If you need a blue pair of kicks that’s gonna look sharp in a multitude of outfits, look no further than a Kentucky-based white/royal set up.

10. Nike Dunk Low Argon

This last entry has multiple blues in use on the sneaker. While some of the other selections went with a darker color on the overlays and a lighter color on the underlays, this shoe flips that. We get a nice light blue sitting on top of a deep medium/darker blue underneath.

This colorway is considered a classic now and has even re-released in recent times. That’s a good thing, as this is among my favorite blue sneakers to ever release, and I’m glad more people get to share in the glory that is the Nike Dunk Low Argon. I kind of regret stuffing the tongue on my pair, as these look great as-is. However, the colorway to me is so SB-like that it still works. In fact, the hand-stuffed tongue allows the blue nylon and light blue lettering on the tongue tag to pop out even more! If you can’t get the older version of these, but love that blue as much as I do, consider going for the more recent retro.

As you can see, blue is a color that is used well throughout Nike’s catalog, and blue Nike Dunks are some of the most classic colorways in the lineup!
