The Nike SB Dunk Low Loon is a well-sought-after sample that eventually saw a wider release, albeit with some different materials and overall look.
The shoes are based off of a type of bird called a loon. All in all, most people seemed to pass on these when they actually dropped. This is after all the hype – similar to the neon J-Packs. This is due to the changeup in materials from the samples and the progression of the shape of dunks that had started to take place. Relative over-saturation of Nike SB quickstrikes at that point in time is also a factor.
I play more off the black/white/grey on the shoe than the lime green. These look great with an otherwise drab outfit as it allows the sneaker to “pop” a lot more. The kicks also look dope with some light colored jeans.
I can easily recommend this shoe for serious dunk and SB collectors. The colorway and history make these a really unique pair. For non-SB heads these would likely be more of a curiosity than something that is necessary for a collection.
Materials
These are basically leather with the black parts being a rough suede with the loon spots stitched in. The sample pairs had the spots printed on rather than embroidered and had stripes on the back tab that didn’t make it onto the release version. Overall, I’d say the suede and leather are likely not as good as those used on the sample. The embroidered stitching actually redeems this and in my opinion overall makes this a better quality shoe.
Fit
The Nike SB Dunk Low Loon fits true to size and is decently comfy after a bit of a break in period. Overall these are fairly comfortable, as long as you are willing to wear them a couple of times to lessen the default stiffness of the shoe.
